After all tomorrow is another day

12 lightboxes, duratrans 2003 This project refers to the general situation of contemporary artists on the Austrian job market. In recent years the promotion of art dissociated more and more from supporting unestablished contemporary art and concentrated on bigger, more prestigious projects, like festivals or opera, because they are financially more promising and more competitive in an international context. A big part of autonomous art institutions had to restrict or even abandon their work due to lack of funding. Individual artists are also affected in their possibilities to create and exhibit their works. Artists may now apply for help at the AMS (labor market service), but for the occupation "artist" the recommended field of work is "stay abroad". The work After all, tomorrow is another day deals with this problem. 12 illuminated boxes show the artists participating in the project "DISPLAY" holding curricula vitae (name, address, profession...) in their hands and asking for work. It is an ironic criticism of the situation of young artists on the job market.
